Good idea. But don't forget, every Oakland student (public, charter or private school), GRADES 6-12 can get a FREE, broadband ready, computer from OTXWest by attending, with adult, a three hour class. The problem of ewaste is the solution to free and lowcost computers. See www.otxwest.org. Adults can earn a free computer by volunteering 20 hours.

After coming from the conference I came up with one ideal that I believe would really help bridge the digital divide and that would be to put wireless internet kiosk in neighborhoods where families couldn't afford computers. The kiosk would provide information such as community meetings, help centers, 911, job postings, and other information that is vital to the community. The way they could be funded is by advertising space. This is just one ideal that I have and believe it could really do a lot of good in the community. It's going to happen sooner or later so why not sooner, and what better city that Oakland to launch the program
